1. Radio produced in 2003. I chose this movie because I have always loved it. The movie is also produced in South Carolina, and is based off a true story. The main character in the movie has a mental illness. His illness is not specified in the movie. 2. James Robert Kennedy had a mental illness, but it was implied, and not discussed in the movie. It was obvious that he had an illness because of his few words and slow thoughts, also on how his mother treated him as if he was not an 18 year old, but as a 6 year old. In the movie, James was not fully aware of his illness, he understood that he could not attend school and learned slower than others, but did not understand why because he would walk by the school by his house everyday and watch the football practices and continues to ask his mom why he could not play. 3. In the movie, the main character, James (Radio), showed signs of anxiety disorder. An anxiety disorder shows psychological and physical symptoms (pg. 306). Radio showed these characteristics throughout the whole movie, but especially when his mother died right in front of him. Radio has a Panic attack and destroyed everything in the house. Radio also showed a symptom of social anxiety disorder when he was asked questions over the fence from the head football coach and could not seem to answer. Social phobia is defined as excessive fears of social situations in which and individual is exposed to something embarrassing or on his part, public speaking (pg. 307).
