Mystery Fiction is a type of fiction that has been around since the early 19th century. Mystery Fiction began to popularize and grow with readers at the beginning of the English Renaissance. The first detective mystery fiction was The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar Allan Poe was one of the first to redirect the focus of mystery novels to the intellectual side of the criminal’s mindset. A girl, Katy Devlin, goes into the same woods and a couple of days later she is found dead. The girl was beaten with a rock and left on the ground. Rob accepted this case to investigate with his partner Cassie Maddox because this is something he can connect with . Since he went through a terrifying situation in the woods as a child he was inspired and motivated to do his best to get down to the bottom of the case and have the murderer pay for what they did. Towards the end of the book manipulation was used when trying to solve the investigation. Rob and Cassie manipulate their suspect Rosalind, who is Katy Devlin’s sister, by telling her that they are sleeping together and Cassie promised to keep Rosalind updated on the case if she promises not to tell their secret. With Cassie doing this it made Rosalind feel like she can trust them and Rosalind started to tell Cassie and Rob that she set up a scheme to have murderer kill her sister because of a lie she told about her father and sister relationship. While Rosalind was telling her confession she was being recorded through a wired and immediately was arrested afterwards. At this point of the situation another manipulation case happens because Rosalind told Rob she was eighteen but in reality she was still seventeen which means her confession was thrown out because of her
