The NAACP, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is a nationwide activist group whose main purposes are to ensure political educational, social, and economic equality amongst African Americans. This organization was and still is today one of the most influential public organizations standing for the rights and liberties of Blacks. You can look at the NAACP as a “watchdog.” By definition watchdog means to maintain surveillance over a person, activity, or situation. The NAACP does this by monitoring the payroll, education, and more to make sure that white people and colored people are getting equal opportunity. They had requested the presence of over one hundred people to come to a meeting to hear their concept of becoming a group that watched over the rights of colored people. With the support of other the organization since then has grew and is covering all 50 states with its headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. As of today, the NAACP has a membership that exceeds 500,000 people. Despite how some may view the NAACP, it is well known across places all over the world. It is safe to say that the NAACP has been and will continue to be around for a very long time and have a huge impact on the lives of many people in our society. The NAACP criminal justice program had issued a policy change in the prison system. The prison system was known for harsh and unfair sentencing and the NAACP wanted to put an end to it. They did this by creating a reform that allowed for effective law enforcement practices that work to establishing use of force standards for law officers, eliminate racial profiling, and increase support for community policy strategies. Not only did they take steps to make this happened but they were also able to bring voice to those of color who were victims of harsh prison systems. The idea of this was a success and the fact that they took action makes it a success but I think that the NAACP can’t change things like they believe they can. Still today the prison systems and the way officers handle things is a problem. More and more people are being killed by officers and are treated badly in prisons. The NAACP having shown that they to steps to eliminating these issues shows that they failed. This organization was not successful at this because it is out of their reach. An organization that is this big should eliminate projects that were not a full success because it makes it look as if they just
