The NRA's fight against gun control did not stop here, instead they continued their push further. In 1975, the Institute for Legislative Action was formed as a branch of the NRA that would help elect pro-second amendment candidates and support pro-second amendment litigation in federal and state courts. The article, "The NRA Has Been Outstandingly Successful Where it Really Counts," by Walter Hickey discusses how the NRA-ILA have been able to implement right to carry and other pro-gun laws in states that would not be expected to allow such laws to be passed. Hickey writes that although the ILA works both at the state and federal level they are most successful at the state level having "had at least 230 full legislative victories on the state level in the past ten years alone…" (Hickey). This staggering 230 legislative victories just goes to show that not only are the NRA serious about what they do, but they are also extremely effective. The article, "America's Unique Gun Violence Problem," by Michel Martin considers that though there is more support for gun control in America, "the NRA's power comes from a lot of single issue pro-gun voters because they're very intense…" (Martin). This intensity is a major reason for the lack of success against anti-gun control parties such as the NRA being that most constituents of the NRA are very active in the voting and political process. Thus, when it comes down to it laws are being passed in the NRA's favor usually because at the voting stand NRA support is much higher than those advocating for gun control laws.
