The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, is an autobiography that captures many of the horrific yet great moments in Douglass’ life. In this autobiography, we see how Douglass went from being a young slave having it better than others, to an orator and writer in the African American community. We witness his journey in abolishing slavery, as he went from plantation to plantation, and state to state, to free the minds and spirits of slaves. He supported and assisted them in many dangerous ways, such as teaching them how to read, and helping them escape from their masters and gruesome living condition they endured. There are many important events that Douglass came across as a slave and throughout it all, he managed to stay resilient and even when most of the world thought they were superior to slaves. Douglass went on to prove them wrong with his narrative; through his famous autobiography, where he writes about his fight to abolish slavery. …show more content…

Douglass states that African Americans should be like any other person, and have the right to fight for their freedom. When he published his narrative, it gained recognition from many people and presented a voice, with all the hope in making slavery abolished once and for all. Douglass did not just sit by and type a book about the atrocities the slaves went through, he also worked on freeing them through the anti-slavery movement. Because of his narrative, Douglas moved the hearts of many Americans, it is what aided him in his fight for the termination of slavery. It also got people to see the true horrors of slavery, and many powerful people came out to join the anti-slavery
