After reading the memoir Night by Elie Weisel, I wanted to compare this event to a present-day one happening as I write this essay. I decided to compare the people who caused such an event; the Nazi Party; to ISIS (Their full name is Islamic State in Iraq and Syria), a terrorist organization and militant group in parts of Iraq and Syria. Although these groups are very different, they share many common goals and ideals. Although the Nazi Party's crimes will stay branded into our memories forever, ISIS is a growing problem that the United States and other countries are getting more and more involved in fighting against them. They are both relentless, hateful groups of people who kill innocents and take them hostage. Both groups are known to have discriminated on people based on gender, religion, and race. Nazis slaughtered Jews while ISIS forces people to convert to Islam or die, sometimes skipping the first option altogether. Both groups were and are bent on creating a sort of "empire" for people who fit their definition of "worthy". Nazis were known to brainwash children and experiment on them while ISIS has kidnapped schoolchildren and converted them to Islam. Both groups are also bent on oppressing women and were started due to the effects of major wars. While ISIS is not known to be racist like Neo-Nazis are, some members used to be part of gangs that had racist beliefs, one group calling out white boys in their community in Britain as "pastey boys". ISIS and the Nazi Party are also very different. ISIS was not started as a political party by a political figure and then supported by the citizens of a nation.The Nazi Party/German army had no female battalions as ISIS does today.
