Call of Duty. Battlefield. Grand Theft Auto. These three names immediately trigger ideas such as violence and blood in people’s minds. Many believe that games with simulated violence are disrupting teenagers’ mentalities and behavior. But, in reality, the case is quite the contrary. Violent role-playing games have a positive impact on teenagers’ lives. This essay addresses the positive effects of role-playing games with simulated violence on teenagers today. Today’s youth is preparing to help find solutions to tomorrow’s problem through science. Violent games enhance players’ tactical minds. Not only that, but role-playing games with simulated violence help teenagers maintain a calm and stable mind, and help them make mature decisions. Violent role-playing games actually allow teenagers to make better, and more responsible decisions. In his article, Martin writes, “… and a non-playing senior-class “judge,” to arbitrate disputed kills and rule violations” (1). This quote from the article connotes that role-playing games with simulated violence promote good decision making and using responsibility fairly. The quote says the senior is a judge. The title, “judge” gives him power and control over the entire game, giving him responsibilities. The text also says that the judge “arbitrates disputed kills and rule violations”. That means that the judge makes sure that the game is played with every team using their advantages fairly and all actions are parallel to the rules.
