Coming to college, we all have a preconceived idea of what it’s like to be a college student from the movies, TV Shows, and other sources of media. Because this, we began to believe of the things said more from what is seen from others, than actually taking a look of what things actually are in a campus life at a college campus. One of the biggest misleading things portrayed negatively because of the media is the idea of Greek life. Greek life is seen as a bad influence on college students as it only focuses on partying, drinking, and other negative influences that have mislead the public. Majority of these organizations has years of establishment that has only grounded them to continue to be a successful group. With that being said, because of this foundation, Greek life in general helps expands leadership opportunities for students that allows them to grow as individual and gain confidence within their members as they strive to perceive more opportunities outside of the community. In the midst of each brotherhood or sisterhood, they have a governing board or council that helps run the organization and lead the chapters into good standing with their national board. Because this is an important aspect of the chapter, members are trusted to become leaders within their chapter and continue to help run the organization at its highest standard. Not only does this open leadership opportunities within the chapter, but as well outside to the community within the campus, and even national organizations as it open doors from experience in working a leadership rank position. The primary focus of college students is to strive for academic success when achieving a degree. While being in Greek life, it does require time and participation as it is a high demanding organization, however majority of the sororities and fraternities manage their programs to prioritize school first. In some organizations, a high GPA is a requirement for the group as it accounts members into being in good standing within the chapter. Other chapters require their members to submit study hours as a verification of their studies while being involved in activities. Although the negative connotation of students loosing focus on their studies, it actually is the opposite as it helps motivate members to be accountable of their own grades as it is the main purpose of them being school in the first
