Music had been part of the human culture for years. As we know there is different type of music that come from different part of the world and they all have a unique history behind it. American music was develop in the spiritual music with one of the most known called The Negro Spiritual. A spiritual (or Negro spiritual) is a type of Christian song, which emerged in the late eighteenth century and was developed in the early nineteenth century in the United States. These black spirituals were popular adaptations of Protestant religious hymns, made by African American workers who were generally enslaved or discriminated against. The spiritual term derives from the expression of spiritual song, which the Bible, in Ephesians 5:19, collects within an exhortation to speak "among you with psalms, with hymns and spiritual songs, singing and praising the Lord in your hearts". The Harmony behind this type of music calls the attention to the public and the emotional aspect of it. I would say musical elements of spiritual music is the Harmony because it has several pitches playing simultaneously and it has that brooding sound that help the music convey it emotions as it goes. Another musical element that this type of music used is Melody. I think that melody play a big past of this music because the rate at which the air set it motion help the pitches to be develop and it give the song a nice touch. Melody is also an African origin because it what they use to give the message to the lord and express their feeling through it.
