The number 23 is a film that shows great examples of different types of mental disorders. I found 3 different mental disorders in this movie which were Phobia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. This film was about a man name Walter Sparrow who had a normal life, a lovely wife and a son. Walter’s job was dogcatcher. One regular day Walter was trying to catch a mysterious dog who leaded him on a chase that cause him to be late for a meeting with his wife. The novel explain how this number rule his whole life and made him a killer. As Walter was reading the book he noticed that there was a lot of similarities between him and the book. The more he kept reading the more the book kept revealing, until he began to see the number 23 everywhere in his daily life. For example on his date of birth, social security, newspaper, stores, and everywhere on the streets. At the end of the movie the revelation was that Walter was the one who wrote the book 15 yrs ago. On the book he was confessing his girlfriend murder which he killed because his obsession with the number 23. After the killing he wrote the book and try to kill himself by jumping from a window. Fortunately he survived and was admitted to a mental hospital for rehabilitation. The accident make him lose his memory leaving behind his dark past. This disorder demonstrated the failure to recover after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying situation. There’s a scene where Walter’s wife take him back to the place he used to be nurse after the he try to committed suicide. There were files and a big box on the clinic b that belong to him. His wife show him the cover sheet of the book “The number 23” that was never attached to the book, which author name was Walter Sparrow. He denied that was true. Also inside the box there was a trumpet that Walter used to play to his girlfriend and a women bracelet. As soon as he saw the trumpet and touched it, he had a flashback of what happened, and throw it away to avoid the stimulus of his traumatic experience.
