Homer’s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, contains a man named Odysseus whose story can relate to soldiers in today’s military, and how Odysseus has to persevere to get home. Odysseus is a loving husband who goes to fight in the Trojan War. His son, Telemachus, is born shortly before Odysseus has to leave for the war. The Trojan War is a long fight that lasts ten years.

In part one of Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus uses his epic hero qualities to help him out on his quest to get back home to Ithaca. He’s shows superb intelligence when fighting the cyclopes in “Book 9.” That’s a quality of superhuman intelligence that Odysseus possessed all throughout his entire journey. Another epic hero quality that helped Odysseus was help from Greek gods and goddesses. In part two of Homer’s Odyssey, Athena helped out Odysseus when he got back to his home land.

As the hero faces adversity in his journey, he triumphs in fleeting moments of bravery. He often exhibits his physical strength to overcome his hardships, manifesting a story with a violent nature. The Odyssey is a 3,000-year-old epic poem organized into 24 books by the Greek poet Homer. This poem entails the long journey home of Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, after the Trojan War. During Odysseus’ absence, his son Telemachus and his wife Penelope are greatly affected since Odyssey is presumed dead. Throughout Books 1 and 2 of The Odyssey, Telemachus helplessly watches suitors plague his mother and home as Poseidon, the God of the Sea, delays Odysseus’s journey home because he angered him by blinding his son Polyphemus. While Odysseus remains absent, suitors devour his goods and urge Penelope to remarry.

A hero is someone who is revered for his or her exceptional achievements and bravery. Anyone who puts themselves before others not for recognition or an award, but because it is the right thing to do, is a true hero. In "The Odyssey," written by Homer is an epic poem about a man named Odysseus and his crewmates competing against the power of the gods to return to their homeland, Ithaca. Throughout his journey, he loses almost all of his men, but Odysseus finally arrives home, concluding his prolonged twenty-year voyage. Odysseus must battle the suitors that have taken his wife Penelope, and may soon kill his son Telemachus.
Do not try to keep me, for I would be on my way at once. As for any present you may be disposed to make me, keep it till I come again, and I will take it home with me. You shall give me a very good one, and I will give you one of no less value in return.” This is Athena talking to Telemachus, Odysseus son. Athena, throughout the epic disguises herself as Mentor, an old friend of Odysseus.
Throughout the epic, Odysseus shows great knowledge and cleverness with his ideas and plans. When fighting in the Trojan War, he came up with the brilliant plan of the Trojan Horse. This ingenious plan consisted of his army hiding in a giant wooden horse. They left one of their men to act like he was left behind with the
Odysseus did not come op with the plan all by him self, he had some help from the goddess Athena. when he came home he reveled himself to his sone and all was happy. After there little reunion Odysseus and his son dissuaded to get rid of the sutures once and for all. They devised a plan that was perfect. Odysseus would walk into the estate discussed as a beggar.
Many will claim that Odysseus is truly the hero of this story after all. He is the main center of focus throughout the entire poem, and he helped win the Trojan War with his wooden horse idea. He cleverly tricked the Cyclops, which got him and several other men out of the cyclops’ grasp. He also tried to warn his men of the dangers that would overcome if they killed the cattle on the island.
The odyssey, an epic told by Homer in ancient greece, has many major themes following odysseus’s adventures. While Odysseus is sentenced to never return home after the Trojan War. He is overcoming challenges to return home to his wife penelope and his son Telemachus. Throughout the story major themes of loyalty, hospitality and vengeance are hidden within the plot. The story continues to show his heroic side with three major traits.
Following the exhilarating visit on the island of the Cyclops, Odysseus and his men continued on their journey back to Ithaca. Poseidon came to Odysseus in a dream and informed him, "You and your men will stumble upon the island Vulcano as you sail. On this island grows the Aiónios tree that will supply you and your men with an everlasting amount of the fruit, Durian. To find thetree, you must hike to the peak of the tallest mountain of Vulcano. With this tree, you and your crew will never starve again.
In any country, kingdom, or household there is usually the one that seems to overrule all in that specified area. Leaders are strong, courageous, and skilled in combat and wits. Leaders are either looked at as an ally or an enemy. They are confident, bold, and respected. In the poem, The Odyssey, Homer gives us insight of how a tough, cunning, and wise man is brought through twenty years of suffering to reach is home that he weeps for so much.
A great leader, a warrior and a husband that became famous because of the concept of Trojan horse and the Greek hero, he was ODYSSEUS. In the world that full of war there might be a leader that will protect and fight his kingdom like Odysseus. In the present day, the politicians might be the hero of his or her community from different risks, enemies, consequences and problems. The movie of The Odyssey, Odysseus tempted many times like when he affair to Calypso, a nymph, but he realized that his wife and son need and wait him no matter what happen but he don 't have ship to get out on that island of Calypso. Hermes the messenger of gods and goddesses, persuades Calypso to let Odysseus build a ship and leave.
