Theological theme through the Old Testament Throughout the Old Testament many themes can be observed, from God’s grace and forgiveness, to God’s extraordinary power. In dramas like Jonah and the fish or David and Goliath, God shows both his grace and power. However, we also see God lead his people. From the day the covenant was made with Abraham, God has been with his people, but his people have not always been with him. Nevertheless, many scholars argue that the root metaphor for God in the Old Testament is, “God is King” meaning that the way people lived and the culture molded was centered around the idea of God having a king-like role in their lives. Still, as we see in Psalms, the kings knew God was the one true King as well as their nations due to the way they worshiped Him. We also examine how God made himself known through the use of apocalyptic literature. Nevertheless God is still God. he still created the heavens and the earth and controls the universe. However, the way culture has been molded is around the idea that God takes a king-like position over our lives.
