"The Outsiders" is a seminal coming-of-age novel authored by S.E. Hinton and originally published in 1967. The novel tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis, a member of a gang called the Greasers, who perpetually finds himself at odds with the affluent and privileged Socs. The central premise of the novel involves the significance of learning from mistakes and overcoming challenges. Hinton employs the literary technique of characterisation to effectively communicate this message to the reader. Ponyboy Curtis is a young and impressionable protagonist who confronts various challenges throughout the narrative.
The Outsiders written by S.E Hinton , published in 1967. This novel tells a story about the Greasers and the Socs which are two opposing gangs that are in constant fights and do not get along. The greasers get treated poorly and disrespected constantly since the socs look down on them and treat them differently since they are not as privileged as the socs. The socs are rich kids that live on the west side of Tulsa , Oklahoma and the greasers were poor kids that lived on the East side providing for each other's needs. The conflict between the Greasers and the Socs is one of the most important themes in the novel.
The chapters 1-5 of the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, is about two gangs the greasers and the Socs, who are always causing trouble. In the greaser gang, the protagonist, Ponyboy, is always getting good grades and is the smartest in the gang. Dally is one of the members in the gang, Ponyboy 's brother, has been in jail multiple times. Sodapop is also Ponyboy’s brother. He works at a gas station.
(pg. 74) Ponyboy knows that if he goes home, he can avoid being caught by the police and avoid being punished for a crime Johnny did. He stays with Johnny even though they are stuck in an old church for over a week. Ponyboy even shaved and bleached his hair to disguise himself even though he didn’t need disguising.
The church that Johnny and Ponyboy stayed in burnt down. Thus, Johnny died. Although they share a great deal of similarities the movie and novel are very different.
Ponyboy and Johnny used to be not as close as now. Therefore, now, they become the closest friend. They become closer and share the same unforgettable experience, they have same situation and same social class. They also rely each other, console each other. Finally they became best friend.
b) Setting: The Outsiders takes place in the 1960’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I know that this book takes place in the 1960’s because of some of the terms said in the story. First, I originally thought this book was in the 1960’s when I heard the name “Elvis Presley”. Elvis Presley used to be a very famous artist.

Son of Darius the Great, Xerxes was accepted as a great king before having to prove himself. Arrogant in the knowledge of his lineage Xerxes lived by his own rules. Throughout his life Xerxes was led multiple invasions and conflicts, his swift and aggressive technique led him to numerous victories. Historians argue as to whether Xerxes can be either villain or vilified.
This theme “the deepest love is often hidden” is especially influential in the novel because it effects the way the characters handle Johnny’s death and how they act afterward. For example, Johnny tells Ponyboy, “stay gold Ponyboy...stay gold” (148) meaning for him

In the book, The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton, the Greasers, who are the poor kids, face many serious conflicts against the rich Socials, or Socs. The realistic fiction novel focused on Ponyboy, a 14 year-old Greaser who struggles with being a Greaser and not feeling understood by. The story follows Ponyboy and his friend Johnny as they run away after killing a Soc named Bob, whose death caused an all-out war between the Greasers and the Socs. Three topics addressed in the fascinating novel are the fight between rich and poor, what it means to be a hero, and the change from youth to adulthood.
In this book report I will talk about the book “The outsiders” written by S.E. Hinton, I will do a review of the story, the point of view, theme, symbols and my opinion about this book I really liked to read for the English class. The story is about a boy named Ponyboy who lived in a small town in Texas with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop were a gang war was taking place between two different social class people: The Socs and the Greasers. Ponyboy will learn the consequences bad acts can bring to your life in the middle of a gang war. The greasers were a middle class and not so social kind of people who liked to get in trouble and The other gang The Socs were a most of them a high class or middle-high class group of people who where they went they will always go in groups of like three or four people.
“The Outsiders” is a novel written by S.E. Hinton. Originally Published in 1967, Hinton was only 18 when her novel hit the shelves. Instead of using her real name Susan Eloise Hinton, she used her initial’s so people wouldn’t know she was a girl making the book less desirable. The Outsiders is considered a cult classic and is typically assigned reading across the U.S. She always loved reading but did not like the books they had for young adults
He realizes that there is more in life than just the Socs and greasers. Johnny shows that to pony when he says, “ I don’t mind dying now… It’s worth saving those kids. Their lives are worth more mine…” (pg.178)
Johnny shows Ponyboy that the world isn’t corrupt with mean people and that it is still full of good. Johnny stated in the note Ponyboy found in the book Gone With The Wild that it is was worth saving the kids even if it meant his life. He also stated that the poem in the book meant “He meant you’re gold when you’re a kid,like green… and don’t get bugged over being a greaser. You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want. There’s still lots of good in the world” (Hinton 178-9).
