From their example, we can know that to people can become closer when they share happiness and suffering. Even though family is important to Ponyboy, Jonny is also important to him, Johnny is caring, a good companion and he is so warm. One of Johnny’s changes throughout this novel is through his actions, he become more brave. When Ponyboy and Johnny have argument with the Socs, Bob laughed at them because they are the Greasers. Johnny wants to protect Ponyboy and also himeself.

(26) , Ponyboy states “ Dallys ok” , “John said defensively , and I indeed. You stick up for your buddies no matter what they do. When you're in a gang , you stick up for the members”. Another example of loyalty in this novel is when Ponyboy feels ill and Dally is injured , but both still fight in the rumble against the socs because they always have each other's back. The relationship between the members demonstrates a perfect example of loyalty.
The chapters 1-5 of the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, is about two gangs the greasers and the Socs, who are always causing trouble. In the greaser gang, the protagonist, Ponyboy, is always getting good grades and is the smartest in the gang. Dally is one of the members in the gang, Ponyboy 's brother, has been in jail multiple times. Sodapop is also Ponyboy’s brother. He works at a gas station.
They support their friends who are going through hard times even if they are going through hard times themselves. Ponyboy lived up to this belief by sticking with Johnny even after he killed Bob, and by fighting in the rumble while in a weak state to fight for his friends. First, when Johnny killed Bob, there wasn’t a hesitant thought in Ponyboy’s head when Dally advised them to run away. Ponyboy knew the magnitude of the murder and even though he didn’t commit it, he went into hiding with Johnny.
The church that Johnny and Ponyboy stayed in burnt down. Thus, Johnny died. Although they share a great deal of similarities the movie and novel are very different.
Throughout the novel, a strong theme displayed is family relationships, even if it had been portrayed positively or negatively. Ponyboy Curtis is the protagonist and narrator of the book, so the Curtis brothers are one of the main families described in the book, which consists of Ponyboy’s brothers. Even though they had lost their parents not a while ago, they still tried to stick together. Unlike Ponyboy's family, Johnny Cade is less fortunate with his family and he’s unwelcomed in his own home. Even though the greasers were not blood related (excluding the Curtis brothers) most of them considered the gang as their family.
Johnny shows Ponyboy that the world isn’t corrupt with mean people and that it is still full of good. Johnny stated in the note Ponyboy found in the book Gone With The Wild that it is was worth saving the kids even if it meant his life. He also stated that the poem in the book meant “He meant you’re gold when you’re a kid,like green… and don’t get bugged over being a greaser. You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want. There’s still lots of good in the world” (Hinton 178-9).
b) Setting: The Outsiders takes place in the 1960’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I know that this book takes place in the 1960’s because of some of the terms said in the story. First, I originally thought this book was in the 1960’s when I heard the name “Elvis Presley”. Elvis Presley used to be a very famous artist.
Khshayarsa also known as Xerxes the great by the Greeks, and westerners; was the King of the Persian Achaemenid Empire and ruled from 486-465 BCE. Son of Darius the Great, Xerxes was accepted as a great king before having to prove himself. Arrogant in the knowledge of his lineage Xerxes lived by his own rules. Throughout his life Xerxes was led multiple invasions and conflicts, his swift and aggressive technique led him to numerous victories. Historians argue as to whether Xerxes can be either villain or vilified.
He realizes that there is more in life than just the Socs and greasers. Johnny shows that to pony when he says, “ I don’t mind dying now… It’s worth saving those kids. Their lives are worth more mine…” (pg.178)
This theme “the deepest love is often hidden” is especially influential in the novel because it effects the way the characters handle Johnny’s death and how they act afterward. For example, Johnny tells Ponyboy, “stay gold Ponyboy...stay gold” (148) meaning for him
In the book, The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton, the Greasers, who are the poor kids, face many serious conflicts against the rich Socials, or Socs. The realistic fiction novel focused on Ponyboy, a 14 year-old Greaser who struggles with being a Greaser and not feeling understood by. The story follows Ponyboy and his friend Johnny as they run away after killing a Soc named Bob, whose death caused an all-out war between the Greasers and the Socs. Three topics addressed in the fascinating novel are the fight between rich and poor, what it means to be a hero, and the change from youth to adulthood.
In this book report I will talk about the book “The outsiders” written by S.E. Hinton, I will do a review of the story, the point of view, theme, symbols and my opinion about this book I really liked to read for the English class. The story is about a boy named Ponyboy who lived in a small town in Texas with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop were a gang war was taking place between two different social class people: The Socs and the Greasers. Ponyboy will learn the consequences bad acts can bring to your life in the middle of a gang war. The greasers were a middle class and not so social kind of people who liked to get in trouble and The other gang The Socs were a most of them a high class or middle-high class group of people who where they went they will always go in groups of like three or four people.

Instead of using her real name Susan Eloise Hinton, she used her initial’s so people wouldn’t know she was a girl making the book less desirable. The Outsiders is considered a cult classic and is typically assigned reading across the U.S. She always loved reading but did not like the books they had for young adults
