¨Hundreds and hundreds of boys living on the wrong sides of cities.¨ I prefer the novel to the movie because the book lets you imagine what is going on. The book shows more of a deeper plot and it has more of the theme of family. The Greasers and Socs are both against each other. Ponyboy can count on his family and friends. The Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up ¨greasers¨ like Ponyboy. First of all, they portrayed the characters differently in the book and movie. One character that was portrayed differently was Johnny. In the book Johnny was always scared and shy. Johnny was affected by his parents who didn't care about him. In the movie Johnny was impacted by his parents as much as the book. Johnny wasn't really scared or shy in the movie. Johnny wasn't really scared and he was in the book. The book and movie showed the characters differently. The book showed Johnny as a small, shy, and scared boy. The book opens Johnny side more. The first piece of evidence is that they never showed Soda feeling in the middle of Darry and Ponyboy. In the movie Darry and Ponyboy didn’t fight. In the book Darry and Pony fight and Soda doesn’t like them fighting because he doesn't like to choose sides or get pulled by them so Soda runs off. Darry and Ponyboy chase after him and catch up to him. Soda then tells them his problem and he asked them to stop fighting and they agree. Another piece of evidence was that they never showed Darry and Pony getting along.
