People change at all time. Whether it is positive or negative. It gives us a deeper understanding on life, which patently changes us. In the outsiders by SE. Hinton. There are variety of relation changes between the characters as well as themselves. Especially when you lived in such a tough environment, such as 1960’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma. People are judging you by the length of your hair, and what side of the street you are in. People would be easily changed. Ponyboy is a greaser who changes a lot because of social divide, cherry’s action as well as the death of his gang members. The social divide constrained ponyboy to change, even if he didn’t want to. He is a greaser. Jumping greaser is a common Soc hobby. The Socs attack him from a movie. Due to their social status, the Socs rarely get punished for their crimes, which angered the greasers. The greasers were always the first to be blamed for crimes, even those they did not commit.’ It occurred to me that they could kill me, I went wild. I started screaming for Soda, Darry, anyone. Someone put their hand over my mouth and I bit him as hard as I could.’(Hinton-5). So ponyboy began to dissatisfied at the Socs who bullies and jumps to him regularly. He ‘s views on Socs has changed a lot. ‘’Things are rough all over’ (Hinton-35). Cherry states after hearing about the greaser’s life. She was taking about her life as a Soc.’We are sophisticated----cool to the point of not feeling nothing.’(Hinton-38). This quote shows that the Socs have problems and issues also. Their live are not as perfect as they might have imagined. After this conversation, Ponyboy realize that in some ways his life is better than the lives of Socs. Cherry inspired him to understand that Socs were really people just like himself. Therefore, cherry ‘s words affect a lot on Socs, He began to understand Socs
