The most hated plot in America is the underdog’s demise- the empathetic pain of scrutiny, and the failure we all miss to escape. It’t not always something people speak very highly of, and certainly never seen as a really good thing. The dystopian society in Harrison Bergeron and the high school society in Mean Girls don’t particularly see it that way at all. Harrison Bergeron story implies it believe conformity is the best thing for people. Mean Girls shows the opposite, that conformity is more of a personal preference for people who don’t have their own ideas.

Individualism, while indeed centered on the individual, is more accurately described as the changing and shifting relationship between the individual and society.
In all of these occasions people follow society and what it says. People who go against society are feared and seem as threats. Society fears what is different or unknown and is sometimes shaped by that fear. Should one be one’s own individual,different or should one go with society to fit in?
In discussions of the barriers to achieving the American Dream, it has been noted that social acceptance is a significantly controversial topic with an enormous need to be examined. Throughout all of time, the desire and even the need to be accepted has been of great importance to humans. Americans have reached the popularity of fashions and trends and media just in time to see those trends die. They have seen rejection and exclusion. They have seen and felt the frustration that comes with the inability to keep up with popularity.
