The Overall York College Experience In Achieving Three Major Life Goals

The overall York College experience has assisted me in achieving three major life goals. The first goal, working in a human resource generalist position, is greatly advanced by my academics. In order to achieve a human resource generalist position, I must have a human resource management degree; not only does York College provide this, but it puts me ahead of other human resources majors by requiring me to take a wide variety of business courses during my first couple years. These courses construct a well-rounded business foundation that grants me more diverse knowledge and increases my versatility - this in turn makes me more valuable to employers in the future. By taking advantage of an opportunity to serve at a physical therapy center, I could explore an entirely different way to serve others and make them happy, which has empowered me to volunteer more so I can fill myself and others with joy and purpose. The final goal that York College has encouraged me to fulfill is to support my physical, mental, and emotional health. My mental health is supported when I work at the Grumbacher Center because I take part in a supportive and kind community there. My coworkers and managers feel like friends that I can rely on, people that I can open up to and not feel judged. They have also encouraged me to strive for excellence at work and in academics, further bolstering my mental health. My physical health is increased when I work out at the state-of-the-art fitness center that Grumbacher has, as well as when I eat healthy meals at the dining halls. Working out at the fitness center has made me stronger and encouraged me to live healthier, as well as helping me find a hobby I like to do.
