Corruption is dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery. Yet John Steinbeck said “Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupt… Perhaps the fear of loss power.” This quote means that if you are always trying to stay in power, then you might think that the littles things that people do are threatening your power. In literature Kino from the pearl gets corrupted when he thinks that he might lose the pearl. The universal theme for the quote is paranoia. The quote relates to many times history the most resent is when Kim-Jong Wu had his uncle fed to dogs. In the novel “The pearl” Kino has not been completely corrupted yet but he is headed down that road. He is already hiding his pearl in fear of someone stealing it.
