Around September every year, the Nile river would overflow and flood the area surrounding the river banks. You may believe this to be bad, but the Egyptians thought of this as one of the most important events every year. The rich black silt in the water from the Ethiopian highlands settled on the fields and renewed them. Shortly after, the Peret took place. The Peret was the ancient Egyptian growing season. During this time farmers tended their fields, dug irrigation canals into the Nile so they could water their fields.
