Before I say anything I just want to say that “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is not only one of the most beautifully written books I’ve read so far but is also one of the books I consider to be my favorites. Not only is it an amazing read because of its bluntness but also how it keeps everything 100% real, going from topics like love to drugs to abusive relationships to even problems with your inner self. I’ve been told time and time again that I related to Charlie and rereading the book reminded me of specific memories I tried so hard forgetting. When Sam and Craig broke up, I remember relating it to something that had happened to a person I was close to at the time, I related with Charlie not feeling happy because he knew that she was …show more content…

There was also A part where before she gave Charlie his first kiss she revealed to him how her first kiss was with her father's friend when she was seven, and I guess her telling him this and all the other things happened to her caused her to become a more mature person. It's shown also when Craig reveals to her that he had been cheating on her and instead of fighting or causing a scene all she does is leave, and Charlie describes her by saying “ She wasn't bitter. She was sad, though. But it was a hopeful kind of sad. The kind of sad that just takes time” and that just shows pure maturity. Lastly, there’s Patrick, who’s big impact for me is his whole relationship with Brad. And I say this because there is a part in the book where Charlie mentions a science experiment, where the mouse puts up with a lot more voltage for the pleasure and to me, he in a way is connecting this to Brad and Patrick’s relationship. Patrick being the mouse and Brad being the mouse nip, Patrick being willing to put up with a lot in order to continue seeing Brad. And since his relationship with brad didn’t end in the best of terms he turned to drinking, drugs, and sex in order to numb himself from the pain. He also tells Charlie that he wants to “get away” (which reminds me a lot of a song by the internet called get away, which basically is about weed being a way to “calm your nerves”, but to the lead singer it's a real escape, sort of like Patrick), after a while though he ran out of things to make himself numb and I guess this happens after he sees Brad in the park with another guy. I guess he realized that if Brad can continue hiding who he was and doing things with other guys then he himself can move on. Overall, though, perks is an amazing book and I was glad we were able to read it as a
