My first novel, a fiction, is The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The theme, change is inevitable so live in the moment, is repeated throughout the book. Charlie, the main character, started his year off rough after his best friend committed suicide, so he started writing letters to a stranger to let go of his feelings and anxiety. That year, Charlie met many people and found a group that he could be “himself” in, although he became very distant with some of them. Throughout the year, Charlie gets to feel what it is like to go to parties, have a girlfriend, and watch his friends leave for college. While writing to this stranger, Charlie pours out his good or bad feelings and he states, “But because things change. And friends leave. And life doesn't stop for anybody” (Chbosky 145). The author presents the idea of the purpose of life and existence throughout the novel. Colin Singleton, the main character, a child prodigy and a high school graduate got his heart broken for the nineteenth time by a girl named Katherine. Colin was so heartbroken so he decided to go on a road trip with his friend, Hassan, to prove a mathematical theorem that can predict any relationship. Both Hassan and Colin drove and drove until they came to a small town called Gunshot, Tennessee and they met a two people, Lindsy Lee Wells and Hollis Wells so they offered to host Hassan and Colin. When they first met Lindsay Colin thought, “What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable?” (Green 33). From start to finish the book shows the value of life and existence from meeting someone new to solving a math equation. Hence, people of all ages can relate to this novel, either by getting their heart broken or going on a road trip with a
