The Pixies: Band Analysis

The Pixies are one of my favorite bands. There songs speak to me in ways that other bands songs can’t. They may not be one of the most well-known bands but they inspired a lot of well-known bands such as Nirvana, U2, Weezer, and many more. I first discovered the pixies after the second time I watched fight club which was earlier this year towards the end of my junior year. The first time I watched fight club I was around 10. At the end of fight club the song “Where Is My Mind” plays which is one of my favorite songs now. It represents my state of mind most of the time where I feel like I’m in a dream world. I first listened to the album on which the song is on called Surfer Rosa. This was also during the time that I was full swing into trying to discover as much music as I could to expand my musical horizons. I decided I would listen to all there albums with the original lineup in it. I started with their debut album Come on Pilgrim which had the songs “Caribou” and “Vamos”. I enjoy “Caribou” because of it sounds like he’s singing for someone. I enjoy “Vamos” because of the absurdity of this white guy singing Spanish perfectly. I then listened to Surfer Rosa which has some great songs like “Gigantic” which is popular in a lot of commercials and it also has one of my favorite songs “Where Is My Mind” like I said earlier. I then listened to Doolittle where I loved the songs “Hey” and “Monkey Gone to Heaven”. I love “Hey’ because of the angst in it. I love “Monkey Gone to Heaven” because of the relaxation in it.
