A week passed no sign of Charles still. The court has passed a set of rules and orders applied to the plague. An example of our rules is “That no Swine, Dogs, Cats or tame Pigeons be permitted to pass up and down in Streets, or from house to house, in places infected.” Because of the assumption this is what spreads disease; people around the castle are on the lookout for rats. She had circular red blotches pervading her skin. I stared; excruciating pain went through my stomach. “My goodness, Grier,” I cried. “How long?” I asked without being able to finish. “One day at most,” he said. I stood up, clearing my throat I said, “Keep me updated on her conditions and I’ll have a letter for her nurse to read to her.” “Of course,” he replied. I began to write: “Dear Grier, It is to my notice you are infected with plague. This saddens me and I hate to know you are going through this pain. I wish I could be there reading this to you.
