The Poet seems to be exploring the essential question “To what degree can an individual's choices and actions influence the direction of his or her life?” The writer conveys how the pain he experienced changed him and caused him to be the root of that pain. In saying this he is expressing how the choices one makes to hurt another or themselves influence how they will react as well as feel about themselves, and in turn will influence their life.
