Throughout history the Legal System has faced many cases dealing with poisonings. In 2003 the case of Cynthia Sommer and her husband Sgt. Todd Sommer of the United States Marine Corps finds a contradicting case of poisoning. You will see the main problem is that the study of the body shows there must of been a poisoning ,but in the trial itself there is no evidence of the poisoning. doctors initially said that Sgt. Todd Sommer died of natural causes at their home at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, lab tests found high arsenic levels in his liver and kidney. The belief for the poisoning it that Cynthia Sommer planned to kill her husband for the life insurance money. The key component the prosecutors use in the time after the death due to the lack of evidence. See Ms. Sommer spent her time after her husband's death partying, drinking, sexual activity, and a costly body fixture. The poison was discovered to be extremely high doses of arsenic in the system. A common fact shared between the defense and the prosecutors is that Mr. Sommer had to ingest the arsenic for the levels to be that high. Bloom her attorney said one of the possibilities suggested by the prosecutor was ant bait. “He would’ve had to ingest 12 pounds of ant bait in order to reach those levels in his system," Bloom said. "It was no way that she had done it.” The trial goes on and in the end Cynthia Sommer was charged with homicide also, sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
