The Pony Express In the 1800´s, needs for a fast mail service were rising. People were trying to get different things like newspapers to be sent faster. That's when the Pony Express began. The Pony Express was a mail service that stretched from St.Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California. Different ideas were coming up, for making a faster mail service, like the Butterfield Overland Mail Service, which started in 1857. But Pioneers were still complaining that they needed a faster mail service. In the 1800´s, William Russell, Alexander Majors, and William Waddell found a way to create a faster mail service so messages, newspaper, and mail could be sent faster.
