The Portsmouth Spartans were a team in the National Football League in Portsmouth, Ohio. They became a team in the 1930’s, and were in the NFL for four years before they became the Detroit Lions Their colors were purple and gold. The Spartans were in the first playoff game in NFL history and they lost 9-0. The Portsmouth Spartans played in the first first playoff game in NFL history and this led to the team being a big part of Portsmouth history.
