Since 1500, countries have pursued a policy of expansion known as imperialism for a variety of reasons. Those reasons lead to both negative and positive effects. The effects can be viewed from different perspectives. One country that was a major in Imperialism was Great Britain. Great Britain was a very powerful country. They had a very strong government and army, when imperialism was introduced, that was a way of expanding it all. One of their targets that they want to imperialized was India. India was ruled by Mughals and it was very rich in natural resources such as tea, indigo, coffee, cotton. Moreover, they governed wisely and fought well. They were able to expand the empire as well as unite the many different peoples and religions within the area. Soon Great Britain decided to take over thinking it was the best thing for them and the people, although the Indians thought differently. When the British came to India their main goal was to expand their empire. They thought that they would do it in a way that was fair for everyone. Although, the British thought they were helping us if the end they were only benefiting themselves. Yes they were able to work, but it was not enough to feed their families due to the fact that they can only grow cash crops and work for little pay. The Indians were taught English but still had no say in the government. The elites feel as if they were just taking advantage of due to their land and resources. They got tired of the British controlling them and wanted to put a stop to it. They created the Sepoy Mutiny, in which the rebelled against the British. Since the British had a better army, the Indians were defeated and killed. The Indians never agreed to get treated this way or agreed to pretty much anything the British. They were under their control and there was nothing they could do about
