Something Wicked This Way Comes: Love Can Defeat Anything
Whenever I was sad when I was younger, my family or my friends would always give me a hug. That is when I realized the power of love can defeat anything. In the story Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, two boys learn just that. The two boys, Will and Jim, are best friends when a carnival comes to town and together changes their whole lives. The boys soon realize that this carnival was one like no other, it was an evil carnival that strives off fear as well as sadness.Will and Jim along with Will’s father knows they need to conquer the carnival, but they did not know how. The theme shows that the power of love can defeat anything.

Jim wants to grow older, he wants to ride the carousel to age. Will knew without Jim he would be nothing: “I’m alone... if I lose Jim” (94). Jim knows he needs Will to protect him also: “You’re always going to be around, aren’t you, Will? To protect me?” (68). Both of the boys need each other to survive because they need the power of love to assist them to overcome their problems together with their fears. During this time Will finally told his father everything about the carnival. He fears his father would not believe the story, but once Charles did Will grew closer to him and loves him more increasing their power against evil. Charles was courageous and uses his powers when he helps the boys hide from Mr. Dark. Will’s happiness, laughter, as well as dancing therefore brought Jim back to life and enables the boys to be best friends as they were before. The power of their friendship helps Will defeat the evil inside of Jim which allowed Jim to come back alive. Will saving Jim assures him that Will will always watch over him. Will told his father, “I don’t care how old you are,...I love you!“ reveals Wills love along with his care for his father and how much Charles means to Will (258). This boasted Charles's self esteem, which allows his father to run with the boys and also defeat his fear of aging. As their power increases, it enables the men to take over evil as well as to defeat Mr. Dark along with the freaks which shows exactly that love has the power to take down even the strongest of evils.
Above all, love does defeat evil. Therefore, as the boys fought using all of their power of love as well as happiness, it shows them that the power of love can defeat anything. Throughout the story the boys work together to pool all of their love together and use that power to conquer evil. In the same way the boys and their experiences have shown that love prevails
