In the short story, The Flowers, author Alice Walker implements powerful descriptions of Myop’s actions to reveal her vulnerability and gaiety. In the beginning, Walker describes Myop as a ten year old girl that loves to explore nature; however, she has never journeyed into the woods by herself. In autumn, she would always go with her mother to gather nuts and explore the wonders of nature, but “Today she made her own path, bouncing this way and that way, vaguely keeping an eye out for snakes” (Walker 1), which demonstrates her decision to go alone.
