The book Adams vs. Jefferson: The Tumultuous Election of 1800 is a book describing what led up, and what happened during the 1800 election. Furling went as far as to mention the American revolution and talked all the way to the year 1800. Although he didn’t talk about the 1800 election until the last couple chapters, Ferling filled the readers minds with what was going on in America before the election. Ferling gives a short biography about all the candidates in the election of 1800, like Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Charles Pinckney, and Aaron Burr.
Unlike William Jennings Bryan, William McKinley welcomes visitors into his home. In contrast the Republican campaign had over 3.5 million dollars donated. In November, Republican McKinley won the election. I believe the traditional ”front porch campaign” propaganda led to his success.
On the other hand, Blaine was chastised for calling Catholics drunkards and alcoholics which cost him the election. Cleveland took office in 1884 as the first Democratic president since the end of the Civil War, and won another term in 1892 making him the only President to serve two terms intermittently. In the 1888 election, Cleveland lost to William Henry Harrison whom won based on electoral votes. Because he did not win the popular vote, many Americans doubted him as a strong president; he did however have the “Billion Dollar Congress.” Harrison and the Congress brought about the highest tariff in American history which was the McKinley Tariff of 1890.
Steven Grover Cleveland was born in Caldwell, New Jersey on March 18,1837. Grover Cleveland’s family consisted of his 5 sisters and 3 brothers. He stopped using his first name because he thought Grover sounded more important than Steven. Grover’s father was a minister and taught him religious studies. While information on his mom was not listed.

Polk beings his campaign targeting the Oregon border dispute with England. His campaign slogan: “Fifty-four forty or fight!”referencing the latitude of the border line in which Polk threatened to fight for. Polk was named as the frontrunner as the Democratic candidate, running against the Whig party who nominated Henry Clay as their frontrunner. Polk received constant harassment from the Whigs who would shout: “Who is James K. Polk?” The Whigs were shocked to know that Polk was announced as president on election day.
The turmoil, upheaval, and controversy of the 2016 Trump election is a significant current event of the modern world, but this landslide election is not the first in America’s history to raise such conflicting opinions. The Revolution of 1800 was another shift in political history that impacted not only the candidates, but majority of the public. The defeat of John Adams to Vice President Thomas Jefferson led to the rise of the Democratic-Republican Party rule and the eventual demise of the Federalist Party. Often in politics, opposing views, scandals, and negative publicity plays a role in the election process, due to this, in both the 2016 election and 1800 election negative criticism from both parties was evident. The 1800 and 2016 elections
Douglas, was an important election that would, and did, go down in history. Lincoln had opposed the Kansas-Nebraska Act, created by Stephen Douglas, which lead him into becoming a Republican. Here, nobody was able to Compromise. He ran against Stephen Douglas, and won the election with getting one hundred eighty electoral votes, and Douglas getting twelve (Southern Democrat Breckinridge seventy-two, and Constitutional Union Bell getting thirty-nine) (Doc H).
1. When did the “Aroostook War” occur & what was its cause? An explosive controversy of the early 1840s involved the Maine boundary dispute. The St. Lawrence River is icebound several months of the year, as the British, remembering the War of 1812, well knew.
The candidates in the presidential campaign of the year 1868 included two men, Ulysses S. Grant and Horatio Seymour. During these times, there was only two political parties: the Democratic and Republican party. Ulysses S. Grant represented the republican party and Horatio Seymour represented the democrat party. The issues that occurred during the presidential campaign were….
Ruther B. Hayes, the Republican candidate, and Samuel J. Tilden, the Democrat candidate, were both running for president. The 1876 election was the most controversial election America has ever seen. Millions of African-American lives were crushed by the election of 1876. In order to win the election, Ruther Hayes created the Compromise of 1877 and in return, pulled the soldiers out the South who were there for Reconstruction. Reconstruction means to rebuild the South and introduce them back into society.
The election of 1796, John Adams versus Thomas Jefferson. The former won by only 3 single electoral college votes. In a highly competitive, controversial race filled with fake smiles and harsh glares, those votes made all the difference in the world to these two men and their running mates. Because George Washington refused a second term, political parties took root when election time came around. No one knew that this election in the early stages of Americas development would define the future of the United States of America.
Thomas Jefferson once said. “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties”. The reason he said this was because he feared a strong central government. Then for some Americans, fears of a strong central government taking advantage came true. This is when the two political parties split.
The One Party State- Texas had been governed by the Democratic party for over 100 years. But the pattern was broken when a competition
