In Derek Bok’s, Protecting Freedom of Expression On The Campus, he brings light to the issue of censorship in universities. He states that students at Harvard University got offended after a few students displayed the confederate flag. There have been many cases in which people have tried to censor offensive material however; the Supreme Court preferred to conserve the freedom of expression. He believes that if censorship starts to take place, it will be difficult to know when to cross the line. In addition, it will not fix the initial problem since the offenders will continue to abuse others using different means.
This is one of my favorite aspects of Claflin because without a safe campus, it is impossible for the students to learn effectively. Also, the administration of Claflin University goes above and beyond to make sure that the new students are successful during their first year in college. I admire the fact that the university cares about the wellbeing of its freshmen due to the fact that most colleges do not pay to the conditions of the new students. The first reason is that it will grant me the opportunity to provide for not only myself but also the family that I wish to have in the future. Another reason that I should be admitted into the Fortis College Dental Hygiene program is the fact that it will provide me with the opportunity to help others. One of my goals in life has always been to be able to help at least one person a day. By granting me admission into the Dental Hygiene program, I will be able to accomplish this goal in more ways than one. Lastly, another reason that I should be accepted into the Dental Hygiene program is that I am a fast learner, I am goal-oriented, punctual, positive, and ambitious.
Why do I want to attend college? College is an honorary achievement and it separates the determined from the undetermined. Owning a college to degree is an honor and an ecstatic feeling. Through college, that job is that much closer in the grasp. Through college, a person can perform at an elite level and really push themselves for greatness.
Also, my school has an alternate program which is a place for a smaller classroom environment. As well as, close supervision and individualized attention to improve grades, and assistance in curbing excessive absences. Which lowers the dropout rate compared to other school. As well as a clubs, sports, and other activities are funded. All these components are key factors to why the majority of the population attend college and have the opportunity to be an NCAA athlete including myself.
