Colonization: Colonization is when a group of people move into a new area, disrupting or attacking native culture, and looking for resources and wealth, and in turn power. This is significant because this was the basis of the United States. When people started to colonize the United States this began the process of the spread of culture and the beginning of a new society. Slavery: Slavery was the “owning” of another person and forcing them to do unpaid labor, and dehumanizing them. This is significant for several reasons. Slavery is a big part of US history, and also the Triangular Trade brought wealth to North America. It also affected a lot of people and created diversity and mixed culture. Great Britain took over all the land that the French had in North America, starting an era of British dominance outside of Europe. Proclamation Line of 1763: The Proclamation Line of 1763 was made to stop the fighting between the Native Americans and the colonists. It forbade the colonists from living west of the Appalachian Mountains, and beyond that was all Indian Territory. The colonists were not only angry over the loss of land, but the fact that the law was made without their representation in Parliament. This is significant because it was one of the first bills to be passed without colonist representation. Benjamin Franklin: Benjamin Franklin was an influential character at the time. He created the Albany Plan of Union, which united the colonies under one government, so they could win the war. He made the “Join or Die” cartoon to convince others to join. Unfortunately, the cartoon didn’t work and the Plan wasn’t enacted, but the idea was the basis for the first United States
