The stance that I take upon memorials is that I view memorials as a way to remember and reminisce on the events that have occurred in the past. As well as to remembering the people that have been lost and lives cut short by the tragedies that have happened. The memorials that I have chosen to make examples of are the Vietnam veteran’s memorial in Washington D.C, and the 911 memorial in New York. These sites have historical representation in the history of the United States. The Vietnam veteran’s memorial is a way to show our children in the future who did so much so that we could have the rights and freedoms in this great country the way we do today. Yes, however the cost to build and maintain may be exponential, but the pros over weigh the cons by leaps and bounds. To construct this memorial was 8.4 million dollars, but that was from a fund that was supported and made by the American people. This was so that we could always have a place for the fallen heroes and a place to remember our history and show our children in the future who did so much so that we could have the rights and freedoms in this great country the way we all do today as well as remember and memorialize the heroes and the ones who have contributed to making America the place it is today. The tax money and time that is put into creating and maintaining these memorials are well spent and are used to show and remember our past. However there are other views. You may think that a memorial for an event such as 911 would be a waste of taxpayers money and be a waste of time and effort to maintain. I do not think this way. I view these brilliant and gracious pieces of American prosperity as a look into our past and a way to remind us all of our past and to show us all that it is important to remember the ones who were lost and the heroes who, special in their own way are no unlike you and I.
