It is understood that the general rulings of abortion in Islam is utterly prohibited. Allah mentioned in the Qur’an, “And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right.” (Al-Qur’an, 17:33). This is to preserve the live of fetuses, which later become a child, as a source of challenges and sustenance to mankind in this world. Allah says, “And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin.” (Al-Qur’an, 17:31). However, Islamic law has never prohibited prenatal testing as it encourages Muslims to pursue knowledge and technologies to detect fatal malady.
