America is known as the land of opportunity and welcomes immigrants from around the world. This country was built by the labor of the immigrants who came looking for a chance to make a life for themselves and their children. However, there are immigration laws set in place that govern the legal steps for entering the country and becoming a legalized citizen. Today we are faced with overwhelming numbers of illegal aliens entering our borders. There are an estimated 11.5 million illegal immigrates living in the United States (Obeidat). Illegal immigration affects the economy, the security, and the government programs of the United States. The illegal immigration issue has sparked a passionate debate amongst many American citizens. Some citizens believe the immigrants offer certain benefits to the United States, while others take a firm stance against the illegal immigration. There are pros and cons for each. Steps need to be taken to begin the deportation of the illegal aliens in our country. It will take several years of strict enforcement and stronger border control measures to put a dent in the problem. Consequently, more manpower will be needed in the form of border patrol agents and immigration control enforcement officers. Illegal aliens who are caught at the border should be deported immediately. Holding facilities should be established at all border crossing areas to act as quick processing centers. The illegal aliens would be screened biometrically and entered into the national database. A criminal background check would be conducted to detain any returning fugitives. Once complete, buses would be loaded and the illegal aliens would be deported. The aliens that have overstayed their visas would be given a cutoff date to achieve legal status once again. After the deadline, those not in compliance would be tracked down and deported. Deportation is a step in the right
