Imagine a classroom that starts around 8:30 am. Kids aren’t failing the class and are alert while actively participating in the discussion. This class could become many classrooms around the U.S. However, with classes starting at 7:15 in the morning, this is not possible. This is because some people believe that school should not be pushed back because of the many problems that changing start times would create. However, when you weigh the good and bad points, it is obvious that pushing back school start times has more pros and less cons. This reveals that school start time are too early and district officials need to change them.

Secretary of Education Arnie Duncan said ‘It would benefit teens to start school at a later time so they are better prepared to learn and concentrate.’”(Page 1) This means that if we pushed back school start times back, the students would benefit from the time change by being able to concentrate more on what they are learning instead of trying not to fall asleep and can actually learn important material instead of snoozing. They would have time to fully awaken before school and become able to comprehend the subject more, leading to better performance on tests causing better grades.
