In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump, a businessman, has been chosen as the President of the United States. Becoming president requires several duties to serve the people and run the country. An issue regarding state and local taxes, Trump responds with a Tax Reform Plan. The creation of the plan occurs as a result of high unemployment, jobs being shipped overseas, and the economic principles including market improvements, price increase, and the compromise of inflation and decrease in labor. The goals of the plan involve simplifying the tax code, growing America's economy, not adding to debt or deficits, and relieving taxes on middle class Americans. Kimberly Amadeo expresses that, “The plan capped charitable deductions at $200,000. The very wealthy often give millions to charities to lower their tax bill. Capping charitable deductions reduces their incentive to donate. Supporting the nonprofits that support the homeless, the hungry and those with chronic diseases” (Amadeo). People who are seeking help will continue to suffer since elites will no longer be donating. Poor people who will no longer collect money, will continue to face disadvantages since they are incapable of working for money themselves. If universities are financially assisted, education and graduating percentages will increase. Having more classes, qualified professors and a healthy environment, the accomplishments of students within their professions will grow. As a result of this, there will be a greater applying rate to the university. Students will be knowledgeable within their career, bringing success in jobs and the economy (Ehrenfreund). Donating to hospitals, such as St. Jude Children’s Hospital (treatment and research facility focused on children's catastrophic diseases), will help find the reasons for certain diseases and hopefully a cure to the illness. With the upper class not having to give due to tax cuts, a majority of the American people will continue to be affected. From what Trump said throughout his campaign, Americans trusted that there would be a change in taxes.
