As a society, we look to the media as a way to keep us informed on current issues and situations, however, more often than not, journalists predispose their own insight on the matters at hand. The media has often been under the scrutiny of misinforming the public, and many have even defended the media stating that it is the reader's fault for misinterpreting the information. However, in order to correctly inform our society, the media and our news outlets must be clear on the information that they provide to the public. Amid the sources from Joseph Pucciarelli, Bernie Sanders, Katie Lobosco, all differently inform the public on the same issue pertaining to college tuition. Pucciarelli makes a point to imply that the bill will increase the number of those applying and therefore make it more difficult to get into colleges. More specifically, he states, “For one, free college tuition will significantly increase the number of applications to public universities. Admission processes will become much more competitive, so disadvantaged students qualified for the scholarship might not even get into the college of their choice.”(Pucciarelli) Through this implication, it is increasingly apparent that he is specifically speaking to the middle and upper classes because he speaks about how giving those who can't afford college a chance will hinder those who are already eligible by creating more of a competition. He uses this false cause to convince the people to believe his statements, however, it makes his statements biased. Just because more people are applying to colleges doesn't mean it will be harder for people to get in because if students are more qualified it shouldn't matter if lesser qualified ones apply, making his article not credible. It therefore is the media's fault for misleading its audience due to many media sources and news outlets remaining unclear on the information that they provide to the public. Amid the sources specifically from Joseph Pucciarelli, Bernie Sanders, Katie Lobosco, all differently inform the public on the same issue. Although all three articles discuss Senator Bernie Sander's desire to make college tuition free, Katie Lobosco’s is deemed to be the most credible because she remains neutral on the issue of free college tuition. When analyzed, it is clear that Joseph Pucciarelli’s and Bernie Sanders’ articles are unsound due to the fact that they both attempt to use real facts to persuade the audience into swaying their opinion. This can spiral into additional problems simply because our society looks at the news to inform us on information and worldly issues. If the information we are given is either biased or incorrect, it can affect the way we think about that topic and the way we as a society vote upon issues. It also has the power to shield us from the real issue at hand and as a result does not give the people the opportunity to think
