Communism always fails because it goes against human nature and our search for freedom. Communism is a type of government where everyone gets the same amount of advantages from work. In a communist country, the lower class are brought up to be more equal with the middle class, and the wealthy are brought down. Money redistributed by the state so that everyone gets the same amount (Hoyt, 2008). Communism is, theoretically, the ideal society, as everyone does their share and works towards the good of the people. In communism, the working class owns everything, as the higher and lower classes are brought to be closer to the middle class. The gulags are the communist version of a concentration camp. People are sent there, often for minor infractions, for life. They live in such poor condition that many don’t live past the age of 45. They have to do intense labor, they are starved and tortured, and they can be executed on the spot for the littlest things. Some inmates are entire families that are sent there because of what one family member did even through two or three generations of the family. Some inmates won’t know why they are there or they will never have met the family member that is the cause of them being there (Fisher, 2015). Gulags are a waste of money and time, as many of the inmates are being sent there for life for minor offenses and things that may not have been their fault. A lot of money is being spent on gulags that could be spent on something that is more suitable. Being sent to a gulag is a cruel and unusual punishment. People are doing labor at the gulags. What is the labor for? Any labor can be done without torture and starvation. The gulag system is something that no one should have to go
