In the year 1859 Edwin Drake introduced the first commercial oil well that was able to drill for oil. Nowadays we see enormous structures that are capable of drilling more of 100 times the amount of oil than that was drilled back in 1859. The main reason why we use these fossil fuels is because they are able to deliver us energy that helps us survive in our daily society.

Today we have tons of alternatives of fossil fuels, but not all of them are viable to produce at the same capacity of fossil fuels. Throughout the years corporations who got into the oil industry have achieved an enormous amount of influence and power over the globe. Is drilling for oil at all a social responsible thing to do? It is unclear if the corporations that drill for oil are ever to be stopped at all. The oil industry is aware that not everyone agrees to their activities, therefore most corporations try to improve their reputation by trying to do as much CSR as possible. However, how much of this CSR is true? Is is just a charade to continue drilling activities and depleting the earth’s natural resources?

Recently Shell has received an ok from Obama to start drilling for oil in Alaska.
Whilst global warming has been proven by a multitude of scientist it seems Shell doesn’t share the ideology as these scientist.

The article also mention that, the negative effects that oil industries have brought to the Arctic is the lost of thousands of acres of wildlife habitat, many wildlife animals, air and water pollution, waste, damage to landscape and many other toxic chemicals such as acid rain and global warming during the years. Since the year 1980 around 13 million gallons of crude oil have spilled due to tanker accidents.

The main concern and problem for this project is addressed to the attitude and behavior of the most most important oil company in the world, which is The Anglo-Dutch company Royal Dutch Shell.
