Last year, United States Citizens used approximately there-hundred and eighty-five million gallons of gasoline on average per day (EIA). The largest portion of consumers that buy gasoline are owners of cars, trucks, and motorcycles, which are all used as daily drivers for millions of commuters around the world. The problem is that when gasoline is burned, it releases a commonly known greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, which has been linked to cause global climate change. The United States’ carbon dioxide emissions from gasoline powered engines makes up around twenty-one percent of all energy related carbon dioxide emissions. As global climate change continues to be a growing problem and effects all regions around the world, possible solutions to slow global climate change, such as alternatives to gasoline powered cars, are becoming more popular every year. …show more content…
The primary green vehicles today are flexible fuel vehicles powered by ethanol fuel, plug-in hybrid vehicles, compressed natural gas vehicles, fuel cell vehicles, and fully electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are sometimes referred to as the “zero-emissions” vehicle, but opponents of electric vehicles are labeling them as an “emissions-elsewhere” vehicles. Although many people feel strongly against or in favor of electric vehicles, the truth is that electric vehicles should be the dominate vehicle on the roadway today because they pollute less, are more efficient, cost less in the long run, are a multi-fuel vehicle, and outperform many of the leading gasoline powered vehicles
