People that suffer from these type of illnesses that seek help will try anything to make them not feel the way that they are feeling. What electroconvulsive therapy is, is a procedure that they use two electrodes and attach them to the patients head, and then pump 65 to 140 volts of electricity into the brain for a half of a second or less. Unipolar depression is not something that just will go away on its own. Some people have extremely bad views of themselves, they place blame on themselves for things that are out of their control. They become less active and less productive and start spending more time alone. They can get the feeling that nothing will ever get better. And from reading previous chapters could lead people to end their lives. So, I guess to answer the question is Electroconvulsive Therapy ethical? Yes, I do think it is ethical. If it helps people and makes their day to day lives easier and manageable and gets rid of all the nasty thoughts that are holding them down in life then I think it is a necessary step to take. Don't get me wrong I think that all other methods of treatment should be tried first, but if it is going to help someone then it is necessary. However I do think it is a extreme measure to take, but they have made changes to the process throughout the years. They now make sure that the patients is comfortable by giving them muscle relaxers and put them under anesthetics to make it less of a traumatic
