The general argument made by Paul Waldman in his work, “The Case For Banning Guns”, is that Paul Waldman believes that guns should be banned. More specifically, Paul Waldman believes that we should ban items that make guns more dangerous like bump stocks or devices that turn your semi-automatic gun into an automatic weapon. Paul Waldman writes, “No matter what legislation we might pass, even in liberal states that have increased restrictions in recent years, we won 't get anywhere near banning guns. In particular, we won 't address the biggest gun problem we have, which is not mass shootings but the daily carnage that claims around 90 Americans lives every day — and that means handguns, not military-style rifles or accessories like bump stocks. Precisely because we can 't start from scratch, all we can do is trim around the edges, try to find ways to reduce the unending slaughter a little bit here and a little bit there.”

I think it is clear that America’s lenient Gun Laws have no doubt been a huge factor on the staggering amount of gun violence for a long time. Some people would say that guns should be banned because it would reduce crime as a whole and keep citizens safer. Citizens of the United States are promised the the right to bear arms in the Constitution, and by applying gun control laws takes away that same right. Crime is high enough in cities with very few laws pertaining to gun control, but taking guns away from people who are registered with license will not solve the problem either. Placing more limitations on gun owners, particularly responsible gun owners, will not reduce gun violence.
Why guns should be legal The NRA has a saying that goes “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.” This quote is very powerful because if guns were taken away, then good people wouldn’t be able to stop bad people with guns. Guns are not the ones that are pulling the trigger, it’s the people who are holding them. Furthermore, guns were created in the fourteenth century and they were around a full four centuries before there was ever a school shooting.
Therefore, we, as a nation, strongly urge you to consider the following points - the main point being that gun control laws will give people true freedom. The need for gun control cannot be silenced by your blind support of the Second Amendment. You state that “If you aren’t free to protect yourself - when government puts its thumb on that freedom - then you aren’t free at all.” Yet, freedom is not measured by how many guns one person can buy.
Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
Closing statement: The debate about gun control is inappropriate, because it does not go far enough. Only a completely ban of privately owned firearms can help drastically reduce the number of firearms related deaths and save countless lives. Without a doubt, the proposition of a complete ban of firearms will be met with fierce opposition. Critics will point at their eagerness to hunt, shoot for recreational purposes, and use guns for self-defense. However, recreational hunting and target practice are hardly basic rights that must be preserved at all costs.
While those in favor of gun control work hard to push their agenda, it is clear that America has far more citizens who favor gun rights over gun control. In order to get what they want, control supporters are going to need to get a big jump on gun supporters for house seats. Some of the control supporters have even begun to turn their head and give up on their arguments. The ones who were once completely against guns, have now begun to say that “there is a time and place for everything” (Elliot and Frizell, The New Politics of Gun Control). The motto in New Hampshire is “Live Free or Die”.
