The article is about the debate on whether Fracking is safe or not. Fracking is the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into rocks to extract oil and natural gas from the earth. Fracking has become more and more popular over the last 10 years because it is a much cheaper way to extract oil and natural gas from the Earth. Although Fracking has lots of upsides, there are thoughts that it can lead to earthquakes and contaminated groundwater. Scientists believe that the high pressure of liquid on the rocks can lead to cracks that cause fault lines to shift. When these fault lines shift, earthquakes occur. Even though there is overwhelming evidence against Fracking, some still believe that there are other forces behind these earthquakes. Along with earthquakes, it is thought that Fracking can contaminate groundwater. When companies Frack, …show more content…
On the one side of the debate are those against Fracking. Scientists and those who believe they have been negatively affected by Fracking are on this side. This side believes that Fracking is dangerous and can lead to things like earthquakes and groundwater contamination. Often times they point to Scientific data to support their point. For example, these Scientists try to provide proof that the intense pressure on the rocks can cause fault lines to shift and earthquakes to occur. On the other side of the debate are those who support Fracking. Often times, the supporters are people who work for the companies that Frack, and people who earn money because of Fracking. These people believe that Fracking is safe and has no impact on the environment. They often look at the same scientific data and point out other possible causes. For example, in one finding an oil company discovered that groundwater pollution was not caused by Fracking, but another method of gas extraction that has no relation to fracking at
