What is Fracking? Hydraulic fracturing or the commonly known slang term “Fracking” is the process of bringing natural gas reserves from deep underground to the surface to fulfil the evolving need of energy. These gas reserves are so far underground that until the process of hydraulic fracturing was created they were inaccessible. The simple method involves drilling into the earth, then inserting a combination of sand, water and chemicals. This breaks up rock and allows oil or gas to flow to the surface. This allows the natural gas previously trapped in the rock to be driven to the surface. The issue – Divided by both political and scientific evidence there are points for and against both sides for drilling or not drilling to reach the natural pockets of gas. Some of the key arguments for fracking in the NT include the potential twenty-two million boost to the NT economy over two decades, create 6,300 new long term jobs for residents, provide up to 460 million a year in additional NT revenue for schools, hospitals, roads and other new infrastructure and the gas industry can provide much needed work and economical development …show more content…
Fracking in the NT will create lots of new jobs because large companies will need workers to complete the job. Many people are struggling to find work in the NT, and with fracking and its need for workers, less people will be jobless. By having jobs, more people will make money. Also, due to an increase in demand for the resources extracted from the process of fracking, the people working will get paid more. Fracking has not been proven to cause any harm to humans, it is safer than mining and burning coal and gas. Fracking will also increase the amount of resources we have and time to find a more permanent way to replace getting gases and other resources. These are a few of the positive effects of
