Genetically Modified Organisms, also known as GMOs, have been under intense scrutiny in the last few years. They have raised major concern in the public because in fact, most of the food that Americans have been consuming consists of GMOs. For example, the Grocery Manufacturers Association claims that nearly 75% of all conventional processed foods include GMOs (Scipioni, 2015). However, despite critic resentment, GMOs can indeed be beneficial for our society. Initially, before introduction into the market, GMOs are thoroughly tested for, on average, 8.5 years. Manufactures of GMOs take into consideration the risks to humans, livestock, the environment, and other wildlife as well (Staff, 2015). Researchers across the world look into the specific proteins and peptides that are genetically engineered inside GMOs to determine if they will create any potential allergic reaction or side effect.
