The Second Amendment gives the United States citizens to bear arms. Although every citizen should have the right to “bear arms”, restrictions need to be enacted. Stores such as Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods have sections in their store to where anyone of legal age can walk up and acquire a gun after a soft fifteen minute background check. Even if the government was to hypothetically enact stricter gun control rules, some questions would arise. Would the limitations be conflicting with the Second Amendment? How will they control the massive amount of guns already in America? There is really no way to regulate something this massive. An in depth background check could extend the amount of time it takes to acquire a gun. Moreover, gun shows and the sale of guns needs to be regulated. Anyone can attend a gun show and buy a gun without having to pass any background checks or medical examinations. The sale of guns at a show should be illegal. Furthermore, the rifle section should be taken out of stores. What if the government was in charge of selling guns to the citizens? Here, the background checks would be more extensive and the government would have a log of all the gun owners. Limitations on how many guns a household / person is able to own might also reduce the amount of guns. Who needs eight different guns ranging from assault rifles to pistols to shotguns? The hunting argument in my opinion is also invalid. A semi automatic gun should be allowed but I do not understand the need for a shotgun, assault rifle, etc. Self defense reasons should only allow a citizen to acquire a pistol.
