People have the tendency to believe that they should be able to do whatever they want with the gun they own.We do have rights as Americans, but the government defines those rights. For example, it is illegal to shout “FIRE!” in a movie theatre when there is not an actual fire. Yes, under the first amendment, we have the freedom of speech - but the government defines free speech. Likewise, under the second amendment, we have the right to bear arms, but the government has the opportunity to define what bearing arms entails. An argument for widespread gun ownership, the NRA, and pro-gun people, tend to use the slogan “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” This may be true; the person pulling the trigger is the reason for the death. However, guns give incentive, along with an easier path towards killing another human being. If guns had not been in the hands of those people, no one would die from them. They would still be owned by hunters and civilians,and just not be used outside the premise of their own home. Also, with all these restrictions, people find it redundant for law-abiding citizens to go through all this when the terrorists are the ones who are killing people. In order to get the government into action, there needs to be proper cause and disturbance with the American people. They would not create a law if they believed there was not a problem to start.
