Healthcare Reform Healthcare reform is a way to enable healthcare insurance to all regardless of socioeconomic status, in an effort to battle the rising cost of healthcare with the number of uninsured Americans (Nies & McEwen, 2015). The purpose of this paper is to discuss if healthcare reform’s overview. Also, I will discuss both positive and negative outcomes of the reform. Furthermore, I will address the impact healthcare reform has had in my own state. Lastly, I will the role economics has played in health care reform in my own state. Overview of Healthcare Reform The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed in 2010 by the previous president; President Obama (Nies & McEwen, 2015). The rate for chronic disease, such as but not limited to, hypertension, diabetes, and obesity among Ohioans is higher than the national average; while life expectancy is below the national average (The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation [KFF], 2014). The implementation of the ACA allowed Ohioan’s coverage to medical insurance without the varying in insurance rates due to preexisting conditions or current health status (KFF, 2014). In my opinion, the ACA is helping to improve the quality of life for Ohioans living with a chronic disease.
